Tips to prepare for Numerical Ability for IBPS Clerk Prelims 2022
Numerical Ability Section:
No of Questions: 35 Questions
Total Marks: 35 Marks
Negative Marking: 0.25 for each wrong answer
Time Allotted: 20 Minutes
Difficulty Level: Easy to Moderate
Good Attempts: 29-32 Questions
Candidates are advised to follow these tips to secure good marks in IBPS Clerk Prelims 2022.
1. Practice Mock Tests
Attempt at least two mock tests every day in the last week. Try to solve 2-4 comprehension every day. It will improve your speed. Solving questions will develop a strategy in your mind that you can use in the examination hall. You will get to know which question you have to attempt first.
2. Minimize Negative Marking
Attempt what you exactly know in the first go. Do not attempt every question to increase the number of attempted questions. Remember, there is a negative marking for each wrong answer. Attempt the questions with consciousness, as you will not be able to go back to the previous section once the allotted time is over, i.e. 20 minutes. Try to solve every question in the first attempt; otherwise, it will consume your time.
3. Prioritize Important Topics
Whatever your strengths and weakness are, you must be fully prepared with this strategy:
A. First revise these topics: Time & Work, Time, Speed & Distance, Boats & Streams, Mixture & Alligations, Pipes & Cisterns, Simple & Compound Interest, Profit & Loss, Ratio & Proportion etc.
B. Practice a lot.
C. Memorize tricks and formulas.
4. Attempt Previous Year Papers
It is very important to follow the exam pattern. And the best way to do so is to practice the previous year’s question papers. Go through previous years’ questions to understand the kind of questions, pattern and difficulty level. Keep sufficient time in your study plan to practice papers and the previous year’s papers.
5. Avoid Reading New Material
Whatever needs to be done has been done. So please avoid reading any new books or formulas in the last few days, especially last week. Just revise whatever you have read and practice it. Give mocks, and mark your strengths and weaknesses.
6. Strong Basics
Numerical Ability is one of the lengthiest and most time-consuming sections of the IBPS Clerk 2022 Prelims. Candidates should focus on speed and accuracy all at once. They have to finish 35 questions in the allotted time of 20 minutes. For this, one needs to practice theoretical concepts, formulas, Mathematics basics, and equations to solve quickly yet correctly. Memorize squares up to 30, cubes up to 25, square root, cube root, BODMAS, tables up to 25, basic percentages and their decimal & fractional equivalents, etc.
7. Topic Wise Tips For IBPS Clerk 2022
Practice BODMAS a lot to solve questions from simplification/approximation. Practice table charts, bar graphs, pie charts, and line graphs to increase calculation speed while solving Data Interpretation questions.
Do not forget to practice factorization-based questions of Quadratic Equations. Data Sufficiency is an equally important topic in the IBPS Clerk Prelims. Practice basic arithmetic to score well in Number Series and Arithmetic Questions.
